December School Board Meeting

So guess who attended her first school board meeting for the 24-25 school year? Meeeeeee! Yes. On December 12th, I stepped outside of my comfort zone and attended a school board meeting in hopes of supporting my child’s school. My mission was clear. Get a better understanding of how our school-decision making is tied to students’ success.

What did I learn at my school’s December School Board Meeting?

After the formalities of the opening items, I learned that our school is planning to release curriculum pacing guides for parents to gain a better understanding of where the teachers are in regards to lessons being taught to our kiddos. That sounded exciting!

After the academics section, they moved on to finances. Yooooo…I am super excited to hear that our school is expecting a $1 million revenue payment from the state of Alabama. I am definitely looking forward to hearing how these funds will directly affect our students’ outcomes.

In closing, we learned that the school is closing on a purchase of a property next to our lower campus. They were planning to close this deal the week following the school board meeting. Apparently, these plans have been ongoing for some time, but I am looking forward to seeing how this purchase relates to student achievement as well.
